Innovator
From Following Steps to Solving Real Problems
Journey overview
Innovator is the stage where the question changes. Earlier levels ask how do I build this; Innovator asks what should I build, and which tools are right for it.
Projects here are open-ended by design. Your child works with advanced Python, applied AI, game architecture, interactive web, or autonomous robotics — often combining several — and has to justify the choice. The emphasis moves from learning features to exercising judgement.
- Stage
- Innovator
- Age range
- 11–14
- Delivery model
- Online-first
- Nature of the experience
- Open-ended, project-driven, technically demanding, with mentored decision-making
- Learning language
- Applied Programming and Technical Judgement
- Growth focus
- Selecting suitable tools, structuring larger programs, debugging systematically, and solving problems without a fixed answer
- Role of technology
- A set of options to be weighed — the child decides which technology serves the problem
By the end of Innovator, your child should be able to take an open-ended challenge, choose suitable tools, build a substantial project, debug it methodically, and defend the technical decisions behind it.
Learning experiences in this stage
Your child does not need to take all of them. These are the pathways available at this stage.
AIAdvanced AI Engineering
Level 2 transitions into the engineering behind advanced AI, exploring Decision Trees and the fundamental logic of Neural Networks. Aligned with UK Key computing standards, students learn how to refine model accuracy through iterative training and explore the basics of Natural Language Processing (NLP). The course emphasizes "Algorithmic Accountability," teaching students how to design AI that solves complex, real-world problems ethically and efficiently. They emerge as true innovators, capable of prototyping AI solutions that think, adapt, and predict outcomes with precision.
Web developmentWeb Design & Styling
Your child is ready for the next challenge. In this course, they'll move beyond the basics and start building real, professional-looking websites that work beautifully on every screen — phones, tablets, and desktops. They'll learn to think like a designer, craft layouts that impress, and feel the pride of showing friends and family something they built entirely on their own.
